Mike Hampton only pitched one season for the New York Mets, but the burly left hander was a key part of their 2000 World Series run. Hampton won the National League Championship Series MVP award after starting, and winning, Games 1 and 5 against the St. Louis Cardinals. Game 5 was as good a playoff performance as baseball has seen since Don Larsen, with Hampton throwing a complete game shutout, surrendering only three hits, and striking out eight Cardinals. The Mets won 7-0, advancing to the World Series for only the fourth time in franchise history.
This base was used as third base during Game 5 of the NLCS, at Shea Stadium. Hampton signed the top of this base in black marker, adding the inscriptions “2000 NLCS MVP”, “3 Hits / 3 K’s / NLCS Game 5”, and “NYM 7 / STL 0 / 10/16/00”. This Schutt base, which has two MLB logos and two NLCS logos on the sides, has “Set B NLCS Game 5 3rd Base” written on the underside in black marker. This base comes with a COA from TriStar for the game use and the signature.
