In 1977, the New York Yankees increased their record number of World Series titles after defeating the Kansas City Royals in the ALCS and the Los Angeles Dodgers in a six-game World Series. With Cy Young winner Sparky Lyle holding down the bullpen, and Reggie Jackson and Graig Nettles mashing home runs, the 100-win Yankees were clearly the best team in baseball that season.
This Official American League Lee MacPhail baseball has been signed by 26 members of the 1977 Yankees, including Thurman Munson, Graig Nettles, and Ron Guidry. Other signatures include Paul Blair, Don Gullett, Cloyd Boyer, Fred Stanley, George Zeber, Mike Torrez, Ken Clay, and several more. Please note that the signatures of Bucky Dent, Ken Holtzman, Ed Figueroa, Mickey Rivers, Billy Martin, Willie Randolph, Chris Chambliss, Dick Tidrow, Catfish Hunter, Yogi Berra, and Lou Piniella have been deemed clubhouse signatures, a common practice at the time. Additionally, there are two Ron Guidry signatures. The signature on the east panel has been deemed clubhouse, but the signature on the west panel is authentic. The signatures have been written in black pen. This item comes with a LOA from JSA (X07241).
