Derek Jeter wore this cap circa 1996, his first full season in the major leagues after three short stints with the Yankees over 15 games in 1995. Jeter proved to be an immediate success in 1996, winning the American League Rookie of the Year and playing in 157 games for a Yankee team that won yet another World Series. Jeter was consistently among the Yankees best performers in 1996, hitting 10 home runs with 78 RBI and a .314 batting average, splitting time between the first and ninth positions in the batting order. Jeter was a stud during the Yankees playoff run, hitting .360 as he helped the Yankees claim the first of the five World Series they would win during his hallowed tenure in pinstripes.
The future Hall of Famer would go on to play 19 more seasons with the Yankees, becoming the all-time team leader in numerous offensive categories, and seeing his iconic number “2” retired early in the 2017 MLB season. This navy Yankees cap is 100% wool, and shows extensive wear throughout. The headband is stained with sweat, and features Diamond Collection, New Era 59/50, and size 7 1/8 tags. Jeter’s number “2”, which shows slight bleeding from perspiration, is written on the underside of the brim in black marker. Jeter signed the underside of the brim in black pen. This item comes with a LOA from JT Sports for game use, and a LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (A04523) for the signature.
