Ken Griffey Jr. set fire to the American League in 1997, posting League-high marks in home runs (56) and RBI (146) en route to winning his only American League MVP Award. The lithe centerfielder hit .304, earned an All-Star berth, and won both Gold Glove and Silver Slugger Awards for a Mariner team that won the American League West Division title for only the second time in franchise history. Griffey, who retired with 630 career home runs, was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2016, with a record 99.3% of the vote.
