This first base was used on September 11th, 2009, when legendary shortstop Derek Jeter passed Lou Gehrig for the most hits in New York Yankees history. In the top of the third inning of a home game against the Baltimore Orioles, Jeter whipped a single off a Chris Tillman offering for the 2,722nd hit of his illustrious career. The game was stopped for an impromptu celebration, allowing the humble shortstop a moment of jubilation with his teammates. Despite an hour and a half rain delay, the bleachers in Yankee Stadium were packed of Bronx fans voicing their full-throated appreciation for the soon-to-be five time World Series champion.

In the very next inning of the game, Jeter extended his new record with an RBI single that pushed the score to 4-1. Although the Yankees lost this game, it will be forever remembered for Jeter’s historic accomplishments. The 14-time All-Star finished his career after the 2014 season, occupying the sixth place overall on the all-time hit list with 3,465 career hits. A surefire future Hall of Famer, Jeter’s number “2” was retired by the Yankees during a moving ceremony early in the 2017 season.

This base is prominently covered in dirt stains from use during the September 11th game. A decal featuring Jeter, a Yankees logo, and the outside of Yankee stadium is affixed to the base, which is in turn mounted in a 28 x 28 inch frame designed to look like a dirt infield. Yankee logo plaques are affixed to each side of the base. Jeter has signed the decal on this base in black marker. This item comes with a LOA from Steiner Sports and a MLB Authenticated hologram.
