This stunning fielder anticipating a catch was one of five figural trophies produced by the Spalding Company during the 1920s. Crafted by the artist at Dieges & Clust, this 16-inch tall figure is set atop an oblong base, which in turn sits atop a black wooden bottom. The base of the statue features a baseball with criss-crossing bats behind it, flanked on both side by the words “SPALDING” and “TROPHY.” While most of the figural that have survived have the name of a team or ballplayers engraved in it, this example does not have any such blemish. The black wooden base displays some minor scratching, mostly around the bottom rear. These Spalding figural trophies from the 1920s are highly coveted, and this is a beautiful example from the series.
