As the most successful amateur golfer of the 1920s, it is only natural that a trophy celebrating a championship would bear his likeness. The trophy measures an impressive 18 ½ inches tall and is 7-inches in diameter at the base. Bobby Jones is captured post-swing, his club swept back behind him as his gaze follows his ball’s progress. Although this piece is of unknown manufacture, the detail and craftsmanship is of the same high standards set by the Dieges & Clust Spalding trophy.
Everything from the laces on the golfing shoes to the texture of Jones’ sweater is sculpted in minute detail. The piece sits atop an ornate silver base which is in turn mounted on a black-painted wood base. The condition is very good, with some minor scuffs and dings in the wood base and some light abrasions and tarnishing to the silver finished figure. The club has come loose and is currently secured in the hands with a rolled piece of paper to keep it tight. There is no manufacturer’s label on this trophy and it is a wonderful award depicting the best amateur golfer of all-time.
