Billed as the “Wedding of the Century”, the marriage of Charles, Prince of Wales and Lady Diana Spencer on July 29, 1981 was viewed by nearly 750 million people, a fairytale wedding that captured the fascination of viewers worldwide. A little less than a year to the date of their iconic wedding, the Prince and Princess of Wales welcomed Prince William into the world on June 21, 1982.
As was customary, the couple sent out Christmas cards to family and friends and this offered 6 x 14 folded card was sent out for Christmas of 1982 and has been matted and framed in a 21 x 21 inch display. Handwritten on the top left corner is “Mrs Pearce” who was “Mrs. I. Pearce, 188 Putney Bridge Road, Putney, London. S.W. 15” on the attached 5 ½ x 7 ½ inch typed envelope with a “R LONDON S.W.D.O. “C” 304317” label that is also encased in the display. The card itself has printed in black “With all Good Wishes for Christmas and the New Year” and has been signed by the late Princess of Wales Diana, who signed it “Love from, Diana”. Also included on this card is a 4 ¾ x 5 ½ inch color photograph of the newlyweds holding their infant son Prince William. There are some scratches on the glass frame, but the items inside of the display are unharmed. This item comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (AD07108) and a LOA from SGC.
