Joe Medwick broke in with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1932 and played 17 seasons with stops at the Dodgers, Giants and Braves. He was a 10-time All-Star and earned the 1937 MVP award from the Baseball Writers of America Association. He finished his career with 2,471 hits and a .324 BA. The Veterans Committee elected him to the Hall of Fame in 1968.
Presented is an Official American League William Harridge baseball that has been signed by Medwick. Medwick’s signature presents boldly on this cream colored baseball and he signed his name on the sweet spot “Joe “Ducky” Medwick” and inscribed “Best Wishes” all in blue pen. Medwick was not a fan of the “Ducky” nickname he got while playing for Houston in the minors, preferring to be called “Muscles”. However, sports writers of his era continued to refer to the future Hall of Famer as “Ducky” and eventually the nickname became permanent moniker. The stamping on this baseball is very light, but has been determined by JSA to be of William Harridge, which dates this baseball from 1947-1958. Medwick single-signed baseballs are not too easy to find, especially like the one presented here which has a bold signature on a clean and slightly toned ball and inscribed “Ducky”. This item comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (AC01798), who have graded Medwick's signature a NR-MT 8 and a full LOA from JSA (Y26848).
