Phil Simms was the 7th overall pick in the 1979 NFL draft and went on to play 15 seasons for the New York Giants and the highlight of his career came in Super Bowl XXI. Against the Denver Broncos, Simms won MVP honors as he completed 22 of 25 passes (good for an 88 completion percentage, which remains a Super Bowl record) for 268 yards and three TDs as New York won 39-20 to capture the franchise’s first Super Bowl.
Offered is a full-sized replica of the Vince Lombardi Trophy modeled after the one presented to the New York Giants for their victory in Super Bowl XXI. The trophy, with its 2 ¼ inch black triangle base, measures 17 inches tall. The front panel reads “VINCE LOMBARDI TROPHY” above the NFL shield and “SUPER BOWL XXI AFC vs NFC Rose Bowl, Pasadena, California JANUARY 25, 1987 NEW YORK GIANTS 39 DENVER BRONCOS 20”. Simms signed the black panel made for the base in silver marker and inscribed “#11” and “S.B. XXI M.V.P.”. The trophy is in excellent condition and comes with a COA from PSA/DNA (5A29246).
