After a 10-0 start, the 1996 Florida Gators lost their last contest of the regular season, 24-21, to rival Florida St. After beating Alabama in the SEC Championship Game, Florida got another crack at Florida State in the Sugar Bowl, and rolled to a 52-20 victory to finish in the top spot of the polls. Quarterback Danny Wuerffel led the Gators, passing for 3,625 yards and 39 TDs against only 13 interceptions. He also added two rushing touchdowns. To cap his terrific season, Wuerffel won the Heisman Trophy.
Offered here is Wuerffel’s 1996 Heisman Memorial Trophy ring, manufactured by Herff Jones. Centering the face of this 10K gold ring is a depiction of the trophy, surrounded by a bed of CZs. Relief lettering reads “HEISMAN MEMORIAL TROPHY” around the perimeter. Wuerffel’s name appears at the top of the right shank of the ring, above “UNIV. OF FLORIDA 1996 THE HEISMAN” and an image of the award. “SINCE 1935” is displayed at the bottom. Shown at the top of the other shank is “DOWNTOWN ATHLETIC CLUB OF NEW YORK” which is above their logo, showing the skyline and “DAC”. Below the logo reads “FOUNDED 1928”. Inside the band are both the manufacturer and 10K stamps. This ring weighs approximately 35.5 grams, is an approximate size 11 and comes with Herff Jones scarce ring box and outside cover. PLUS an "HJ" ring advertisement.
