The Oakland Oaks were a charter member of the Pacific Coast League founded in 1903.  They remained in the PCL through 1955, after which the club transferred to Vancouver, British Columbia.  Prior to their departure from the PCL, The Oaks earned five minor league titles in 1912, 1927, 1948, 1950 and 1954.  In 1946, “Casey” Stengel was hired to manage the Oaks leading up to the club’s most celebrated pennant in 1948.  Stengel’s success with the Oaks earned him a spot as manager of the New York Yankees in 1949 and Chuck Dressen replaced Stengel.  Dressen led the Oaks to a second place finish in 1949 and another PCL pennant in 1950.  This led to another Oaks’ manager being promoted to the major leagues, with Dressen hired to manage the Dodgers in 1951.  At that point, former New York Giant star Mel Ott was hired as his replacement.  Offered here is a wonderful photo of the 1951 Oakland Oaks team signed by 24 players including Mel Ott which comes with a PSA LOA (C81611).
