Hall of Famer Gary Carter’s 1988 season saw the great catcher reach the 300 home run milestone during an August 11th game at Wrigley Field. Carter would help lead the New York Mets to another 100-win season and a comfortable 15-game National League Eastern Division win as the Mets looked to head back to the World Series. However, the upstart Los Angeles Dodgers rode the hot pitching of Orel Hershiser and upset New York in a hard-fought seven-game series in the NLCS.
This offered size 46 road gray Rawlings jersey was worn by Carter during the 1988 season and features “NEW YORK” sewn on across the chest in blue, orange and white tackle twill. The back of the jersey has “CARTER” and “8” sewn on in blue, orange and white tackle twill. The Rawlings tag is sewn on the inside front left tail and has a “SET 2 1988” flag attached, along with a gray patch that reads “88 2 8”. The sleeves and sides of the jersey are lined in a white/orange/blue/orange/white ribbed material stripe and the v-neck collar is blue. The jersey displays moderate game use with some staining on the shoulders and sleeves. The white tackle twill on the letters and number display toning as well. Carter signed his name on the middle rung of the “8” on the back of the jersey in silver marker. This jersey comes with a COA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (C99750) for the signature and a LOA from noted game used jersey expert Dave Miedema for the game use.
