While Derek Jeter had many memorable campaigns with the New York Yankees, his 2000 season stands out as one of the most extraordinary. Jeter led a stacked Yankees team with a sky-high .339 batting average and 201 hits, while launching 15 home runs and driving in an additional 73 from the second spot in the batting order.
The Yankees won 87 games in 2000, finishing first in the American League East by a 2.5 game margin over the Boston Red Sox. In the playoffs, Jeter once again earned his “Captain Clutch” nickname by leading the Yankees to victories over the Oakland Athletics and Seattle Mariners in the first two rounds of the postseason. It was in the World Series, against the Yankees cross-town rivals, the New York Mets, that Jeter found another gear. He hit .409 for the World Series, with two clutch home runs and six runs scored to lead the Yankees to a comfortable 4-1 series win and their 26th World Series championship. Jeter won the World Series MVP Award, after already having won the All-Star Game MVP trophy, putting a fitting end to one of his most dominant seasons.
Jeter wore this white, button down, pinstriped home jersey during the 2000 MLB season. It has the Yankees iconic interlocking “NY” logo sewn on the left chest in navy blue tackle twill. Jeter’s now retired number “2” is sewn on the back of the jersey in navy blue tackle twill beneath a MLB logo patch. A black memorial armband is sewn on the left sleeve in honor of Hall of Fame pitcher and former Yankee manager Bob Lemon. A Russell Athletic tag with attached size “48” and “+2” Extra Length” flags is sewn on the front left tail of the jersey above a year “2000” tag. This jersey displays light use and comes with a LOA from MEARS, who have graded this jersey authentic.
