New York Mets manager Davey Johnson wore this gray Mets road jersey during the 1986 MLB playoffs. The Mets defeated the Houston Astros in a six game National League Championship Series before facing the Boston Red Sox in the Fall Classic. This dramatic, seven-game series was marked by Bill Buckner’s unfortunate error at first base at the end of Game 6. The Mets, down three games to two after five contests, won an exciting 8-5 Game 7 to earn their second World Series title in franchise history.
This gray, pullover road jersey has “Mets” sewn across the chest in blue and orange tackle twill. Johnson’s number “5” is sewn on the chest and back in blue and orange tackle twill, while “JOHNSON” is sewn across the back shoulders in blue and orange tackle twill over a matching gray nameplate. A Mets 25th Anniversary logo patch is sewn on the left sleeve. A Goodman & Sons size “46” tag and a “Set P ‘86” tag is sewn on the front left tail. This jersey shows moderate wear, and comes with a LOA from noted game used jersey expert Dave Miedema.
