San Diego Padres legend Tony Gwynn wore this batting helmet on July 30th, 1998, when he recorded the 2,893rd and 2,894th hits of his Hall of Fame career. Gwynn finished 2-4 in the Padres 3-1 road victory over the New York Mets, doubling against Bobby Jones in the first inning and hitting a single off the same pitcher in the sixth. The Padres went on to reach the 1998 World Series, although they fell to the New York Yankees in the Fall Classic. Gwynn finished his career in 2001 with 3,141 hits. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007.
This helmet is navy blue, with a Padres logo decal applied to the front. Gwynn’s number “19” and an American Bat Co. logo are applied to the back of the helmet. This size 7 1/8 helmet has “7/30/98 #2893-2B #2894-1B Vs NY Mets” is written on the back of the helmet in black marker. Gwynn has signed the brim of this helmet in silver marker. This item comes with a COA from Alicia Gwynn.
