Hall of Fame outfielder Tony Gwynn wore these black Nike Zoom Air cleats with rubber turf soles during the 1998 MLB season. Gwynn hit .321 in 1998, with 16 home runs and 69 RBI, as he led the Padres to a franchise-best 98 victories and a place in the World Series. Although the Padres fell to the Yankees in the World Series, Gwynn hit for a .500 batting average and slugged a memorable home run against David Wells at Yankee Stadium during the Fall Classic. Gwynn finished the 1998 regular season with 2,928 career hits, and he would reach the milestone 3,000 hit mark during the 1999 season.
These shoes are black, with black and white Nike swooshes applied to each side of the shoes. A “Zoom Air” logo is located on each heel, and a white Nike swoosh is embroidered on the toes. The black lace guard features a “5.5 Hole” patch. Gwynn has signed each lace guard in silver marker. Gwynn’s number “19” is written on the sole of each shoe in black marker. These shoes, which show excellent use, come with a LOA from JT Sports for game use and a LOA from JSA (Z76358) for the signatures.
