Presented here is a 1941 New York Yankees stock certificate signed by Ed Barrow and George Ruppert. This certificate states that Edward Barrow is the owner of 300 shares of Yankees stock. Barrow had been a baseball man since the 1890s, offering Honus Wagner his first professional contract in 1896. A World Series winning manager with the Red Sox, Barrow was responsible for guiding Babe Ruth’s transition from pitcher to outfielder. He achieved his greatest renown as the chief executive for the Yankees under Jacob Ruppert, organizing and creating the Murderer’s Row teams of the late 1920s. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1953.
Jacob Ruppert bought the Yankees in 1915, and was the chief force behind the construction of Yankee Stadium in 1922. Under Ruppert, the Yankees won eight pennants and seven World Series titles. Ruppert was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2013. This stock certificate is encased in a 12 x 15 inch frame, and features the black pen signatures of both Barrow and Ruppert's brother George, who served as Yankees Vice President.
