After 24 seasons in the Major Leagues, there was nothing Steve Carlton had not accomplished. A four-time Cy Young Award winner, Carlton won 329 games and struck out 4,136 batters. Both of these numbers rank second all-time for left-handed pitchers, putting Carlton in the highest echelon of Major League hurlers. Carlton earned his greatest successes with the Philadelphia Phillies, winning 241 games for the team and leading them to the 1980 World Series title, the first ever championship in the long history of the Phillies. “Lefty” made 10 All-Star teams during his career, and was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1994, on his first ballot.
This stunning piece of Bill Lopa artwork shows Carlton about to deliver a pitch, looking resplendent in his Phillies powder-blue uniform. This acrylic artwork was done in the “splatter” technique, and conjures vivid imagery of the fearsome left-hander in action. Carlton signed this artwork in silver marker, inscribing “Cy 72, 77, 80, 82. 329 / 4136” and “HOF 94”. Additionally, Lopa has signed this piece in blue marker. This painting measures 40 x 54 inches, and comes with a COA from JSA (S87328).
