Ty Cobb was one of the greatest baseball players of the dead ball era, utilizing an aggressive, flashy style of play to great effect. “The Georgia Peach” accumulated 4,189 hits, more than all but one player in history, and an impressive 117 home runs in an era devoid of power. Cobb’s .366 batting average is the highest of all time, and the slim outfielder hit over .400 thrice in his career. The 12-time batting champ was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936 as a member of its inaugural class.
Offered here is a postcard signed by Ty Cobb. Cobb signed this postcard in 1928, the year of his final season in the Major Leagues. The 41-year-old played 95 games with the Philadelphia Athletics in 1928, hitting .323 with 54 runs scored. He has signed the back of this postcard in black pen. “Famous Baseball Player Who Has More Than Four Thousand Hits” is written on the back of the postcard in an unknown hand, and a newspaper photograph of Cobb has been affixed to the reverse side as well. This item has been encapsulated and authenticated by PSA/DNA (83821138).
