In 1975, the greatest soccer player in the world joined the New York Cosmos of the North American Soccer League. Pele instantly brought soccer to popularity in America, wowing fans in the NASL with his incredible footwork and eye for goal. The Brazilian legend played for only a few seasons with the Cosmos, but his impact on American soccer cannot be overstated. Pele excelled for both club and country, finishing his Brazilian career with three World Cup titles and 77 goals in only 92 caps.
Presented in this lot are a green Cosmos jersey and a Puma Liga cleat signed by Pele. The jersey is short sleeved, with Pele’s number “10” sewn on the right sleeve and the back of the jersey in white and yellow tackle twill. A Cosmos logo patch is sewn on the left chest, and three gold stars are embroidered on the right. “PELE” is sewn across the back shoulders in white tackle twill. Pele has signed the back of the jersey beneath his number in black marker. This item comes with a COA from PSA/DNA (AC97391).
The second item in this collection is a black and white Puma Liga cleat. Pele has signed the outside of this cleat, on the white stripe, in black marker. This shoe comes with a COA from PSA/DNA (AD18296).
