Do you believe in miracles? In the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics the underdog United States hockey team defeated the formidable and heavily favored squad from the USSR. Immortalized by broadcaster Al Michael’s historic call, and with tensions heightened by the Cold War, the Miracle on Ice is widely regarded as one of the greatest upsets in sports history. The US team was comprised mainly of college hockey players, who were seemingly no match for the battle tested Soviets. Despite the massive odds against them, the USA prevailed 4-3 and went on to win the gold medal that year.
