When George Herman “Babe” Ruth was alive, he was such a dominant force on the diamond, and in public life. When something nowadays is seen as the biggest, it is considered of Ruthian proportions and if someone was the best in his field he was considered “the Babe Ruth of….sports catalog writing??” or whatever field the person was involved. But as big and superhuman as the Babe appeared, he was still an everyday guy, who needed the everyday necessities similar to the rest of the growing population of the Roaring 20s. One of these necessities was life insurance. This 5.5” x 8” document instructs Ruth to pay to The Equitable Life Assurance Society “prepayment of premiums” on a life insurance policy. The document is dated June 25, 1924 and is signed “George H. Ruth” in black fountain pen. It has a paper clip indentation in the upper left corner and a period horizontal fold moving through the middle. Neither affects the bold ink signature of the Bambino. This document has been authenticated by PSA/DNA and is housed in their distinctive protective holder.
