Offered is a signed table read script to perhaps the greatest television show of all time. Signed by most of the episodes cast, co-creator Larry David and Seinfeld legend (and New York Yankees owner) George Steinbrenner! The “Show about Nothing” was actually something. Arguably the greatest sitcom of all time, it was right up there with The Honeymooners, I Love Lucy, and All in the Family. As with these other great television programs, Seinfeld was about four people living in New York City. Simple concept, one pulled off with great success. Seinfeld’s secret was to make every day happenings into hysterical moments. For example, most everyone gets married, and many people might have second thoughts prior to the big day. But George Costanza played this factor to the largest degree. This episode, known as “The Invitations” was the final episode of the 7th season, and was the last episode written by co-creator Larry David before the final episode two seasons later. George chooses the cheapest wedding invitations and his fiancé, Susan, dies after licking the toxic glue on the envelopes. This episode is also known as the only episode the real George Steinbrenner appeared. He was in three separate scenes, but due to time constraints all his scenes were deleted from the original airing. This script was actually part of the table reading for the episode, and was passed around the table after the reading for signatures. It has been boldly singed in black Sharpie by 12 cast/crew members including Jerry Seinfeld, Larry David, Julia Louis-Dreyfuss, Michael Richards, Jason Alexander, Andy Ackerman (director), Lee Bear (played Steinbrenner), Heidi Swedberg (Susan), Janeane Garofalo, Victor Raider-Wexler (Susan’s doctor), David Pierce (worked on set) and George Steinbrenner. Accompanying this script is a signed LOA (dated October 6, 2010) from David Pierce, who worked on the set as Transportation Coordinator and appears briefly in one episode as furniture designer Carl Farbman. This item also comes with a full LOA from PSA/DNA. Unlike other scripts which have come up for sale over the years, this script was actually used in the table reading and passed around the table afterwards for signatures. Pierce indicates in his LOA that Larry David rarely signed table reading scripts and it was after much cajoling David relented and signed the script. Pierce describes getting David’s signature as “near impossible.” However, it is Steinbrenner’s actual signature which makes this item extra special. According to Pierce, “Big Stein” originally declined to sign the script, and only consented after Jerry Seinfeld personally asked him. While “Steinbrenner” appeared in many episodes, this is actually the only one which the real bombastic George Steinbrenner appeared as himself. His deleted clips can be seen on the DVD version. This signed script combines two of America’s fascinations and loves, pop culture and sports. This is an extremely rare item, which perhaps is the only one in existence – a table reading script signed by both Larry David and George Steinbrenner! This isn’t nothing…it’s something!
