The 1986 New York Mets were the greatest team in franchise history. Unlike their previous championship team of 1969, the Mets of 1986 had the best record in baseball 108-54. After the Mets dispatched the Houston Astros in six games, they defeated the Boston Red Sox in the World Series, coming back from 2-0 and 3-2 deficits, including the memorable Game 6 comeback, scoring three runs with two outs and nobody on base to force the deciding Game 7. One of the key players on that squad was Wally Backman, a solid second baseman who platooned with Tim Teufel. Backman batted .320 and scored 67 runs and a table-setter for the powerful Mets’ lineup that featured Daryl Strawberry and Keith Hernandez.
This offered New York Mets road jersey was worn by Wally Backman during the 1986 postseason. This jersey features “Mets” and his number “6” sewn on the front of the jersey in blue and orange tackle twill. “BACKMAN” is sewn across the back shoulders in blue and orange tackle twill over a matching gray nameplate. His number “6” is sewn on the back of the jersey in blue and orange tackle twill. A Mets 25th Anniversary patch is sewn on the left sleeve, and a W.A. Goodman & Sons size “38” tag is sewn on the front left tail of the jersey, along with a silver patch to the left of the “Goodman” tag that reads “SET P ‘86”. This jersey displays light use and comes with a full LOA from the game used experts at Mears, who have graded this Wally Backman postseason jersey a perfect A10.
