It what has been widely regarded as one of the greatest Super Bowls of all-time, the New York Giants edged the heavily-favored Buffalo Bills 20-19 to capture Super Bowl XXV in Tampa on January 27, 1991. With the backdrop of the Persian Gulf War and the rousing rendition of the Star Spangled Banner by Whitney Houston, the game itself turned into a classic battle between two vastly different styled teams. The Giants used their ground game and short passing to eat up the clock and keep the fast-tempo, no-huddle offensive of the Buffalo Bills off the field. The plan worked to perfection as Big Blue had the ball for 40:33, while the Bills had the ball for 19:27. The game ultimately came down to a last-second 47-yard field goal attempt from Buffalo’s Scott Norwood which just sailed wide right, giving the Giants the victory.

Offered is this Official Wilson Super Bowl XXV football that was used in this historic game. The ball has the stamped signature of then commissioner Paul Tagliabue in black. Printed on the opposite panel is “NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE Tampa, Fl. * January 27, 1991 Silver Anniversary”. The ball shows light game use and has been signed and inscribed in silver marker by New York Giants offensive lineman Bart Oates. Oates inscribed “65”, “XXV World Champs” and “(game used)”. This football comes with a COA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (C99697).
