For years, the San Diego Chicken has been among the most recognizable mascots in sports. Portrayed by Ted Giannoulas, the Chicken debuted in 1974 and continues to make appearances at ballparks and events across the country to this day. The Chicken was named to The Sporting News list of 100 most powerful people in sports for the 20th century, and his legacy of outlandish mascot antics have paved the way for generations of MLB mascots.
Offered here is the head of the San Diego Chicken, in all of its yellow-feathered glory. The head measures 16 inches high and is topped with a shock of blue plumage. The beak is orange and open, with a flopping pink tongue lolling inside the beak. The eyes are blue, with purple lids. This is a fantastic piece of baseball history, and a truly one-of-a-kind display piece.
