Presented here is a vintage photograph of the legendary Babe Ruth. The father of the home run, Ruth is pictured here wearing his road grays. This photograph was likely taken in 1927, the first season that the Yankees had “YANKEES” on their road uniform instead of “NEW YORK”. Ruth had one of the most memorable seasons in baseball history in 1927, setting a longstanding MLB record with 60 home runs for the “Murderer’s Row” Yankees. Ruth led the Yankees to a World Series title in 1927, blasting two more home runs during the Yanks four-game sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates in the Fall Classic. This photograph measures 5 x 8 inches, and has “8/17/27” written on the back of the photograph in black pen. If the date accurately describes the photograph, Ruth hit his 41st home run of the season that day, during a 14-4 victory over the hapless St. Louis Browns at Sportsman’s Park. Ruth finished the game 2-4, with three RBI and three runs scored.
