Dwight “Doc” Gooden came roaring out of the gates to start his MLB career. The Mets ace combined a blazing fastball with a knee-buckling curveball to compile a 17-9 record as a 19-year old rookie in 1984, winning the National League Rookie of the Year Award by a cavernous margin. Gooden, thanks to his magnetic presence on the mound and an MLB-best 276 strikeouts, finished second in the National League Cy Young Award race, an award that he would claim the following season. Gooden’s presence at the front of the rotation reinvigorated the Mets, with the effusive twirler leading the New York ballclub to the 1986 World Series title in only his third MLB season.

Gooden used this HOH-40BF fielder’s glove during the 1984 MLB season, his rookie year. The glove has a basket web, with a FastBack wrist enclosure and index finger hole. A Rawlings tag is sewn on the wrist of the glove, and a circular Rawlings logo appears on thumb. “Doc” is written in black marker on the pinky and inside the palm. His number “16” is written on the thumb in black marker. He signed the glove in silver marker on the thumb, writing “Glove during 1984 Rookie Season” above his signature. This glove shows evidence of excellent use, and comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1G00423) for the game use and a LOA from JSA for the signature.
