Hall of Fame right fielder Tony Gwynn wore this navy blue San Diego Padres jersey during his quest for 3,000 career hits. Gwynn wore this jersey on July 28th, 1999, during the Padres 7-4 home loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks. The former San Diego State standout collected the 2,991st hit of his career during this game, singling to center field against Diamondbacks starter Omar Daal. Gwynn would hit number 3,000 in just a week, singling against the Montreal Expos on August 6th. Gwynn, who made the final All-Star team of his career in 1999, finished the season with a .338 batting average, 10 homers, and 62 RBI. He retired after the 2001 season, and was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007.

This navy blue jersey has “PADRES” sewn across the chest in navy blue white, and orange tackle twill. Gwynn’s number “19” is sewn on the front of the jersey in white tackle twill and on the back of the jersey in orange and white tackle twill. “GWYNN” is sewn across the back shoulders in white tackle twill. A patch sewn on the back tail of the jersey reads “#2991 / 7-28-99 / VS. / AZ” in white text. Gwynn signed the “1” digit on the back of the jersey in black marker.
