Longtime Los Angeles Dodger Bill Russell wore this uniform as a coach during the Dodgers 1988 World Series winning season. Russell played 18 seasons for the Dodgers, beginning in 1969 and ending with his retirement in 1986. Russell anchored an infield that included Ron Cey, Davy Lopes, and Steve Garvey which holds the distinction of longest-tenured intact infield in Major League history. Russell himself holds the record for most games played with the Los Angeles Dodgers, and is second behind only deadball era legend Zack Wheat for games played with the Dodgers franchise. In 1988, Russell was a coach for Tommy Lasorda as the Dodgers claimed a World Series title by defeating the Oakland Athletics in a five-game Fall Classic.

The jersey is a gray, button down road number, with “Dodgers” and a paraph sewn across the chest in blue and white tackle twill. Russell’s number “18” is sewn on the chest in red tackle twill, and on the back in blue and white tackle twill. “RUSSELL” is sewn across the back shoulders in blue and white tackle twill. A blue and white band encircles each sleeve. A Rawlings size “42” tag with an attached “SET 1 1988” flag is sewn on the back inside collar. Russell has signed the back of the jersey in black marker.

Also included are Russell’s gray road pants from the 1988 season. A Rawlings size “35” tag is sewn on the back inside waistband, and a swatch with “RUSSELL 88 1 35-37 27 W.S.” sewn on in blue text is sewn on the back waistband as well. Russell has signed the left leg in black marker. This lot comes with a LOA from Russell himself.
