Presented here is a poster from the 1920 Antwerp Summer Olympics. The seventh modern Olympiad, the Antwerp Games were held in the wake of the devastation of World War I, and many bellicose countries were banned from competing in these games. The Antwerp Games saw many notable performances, including Duke Kahanamoku retaining his gold medal, and the Finnish long-distance racer Paavo Nurmi winning gold medals in the 10,000m, individual cross country, and team cross country events. The United States won the most medals in Antwerp, finishing with 41 golds among their total haul of 95 medals, 31 more than the second-place nation. This poster shows a discus thrower posed in front of the Antwerp skyline. The Antwerp city seal is present on the upper right corner, and text at the bottom reads “VII Olympiad Antwerpen [België] Augustus-September 1920”. This linen backed poster measures 26 x 37 inches, and is in beautiful condition.
