Gwynn wore this jersey against the Texas Rangers on August 31st, 1997 at Qualcomm Stadium. The Padres won this game 5-3, with Gwynn recording the 2,753rd hit of his career on a double against Wilson Heredia in the bottom of the fifth inning. Gwynn scored several batters later when Wally Joyner singled him home. 1997 was possibly the best season of the former San Diego State Aztecs’ career. Gwynn won his eighth batting title with a stunning .372 mark while setting career-highs in home runs (17) and RBI (119). Gwynn, an All-Star in 1997, also led all of baseball in hits, with 220.
