Offered here is the baseball Tony Gwynn used to break Dave Winfield’s San Diego Padres team record for most hits. Gwynn collected his record-setting 1,135th hit on September 17th, 1988 against the Atlanta Braves at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium. Gwynn went 2-4 with two RBI and two runs scored in this game, with hit number 1,135 coming against Jim Acker in the top of the seventh inning. Gwynn’s milestone hit was a single to right field that scored Roberto Alomar. Gwynn would score on the next play, a home run from Carmelo Martinez. This was the second time in the game that Gwynn drove in Alomar, with the first instance occurring on a third inning triple. Gwynn finished the 1988 season with seven home runs and 70 RBI, claiming the National League batting title with a .313 mark. This baseball is an Official National League A.
