Kansas City Royals ace Bret Saberhagen, the 1985 American League Cy Young Award winner, was the starting pitcher in the 1987 All-Star Game. Entering the game with a sparkling 15-3 record, Saberhagen had once again proved his mettle as an American League ace. Saberhagen pitched the first three innings of the All-Star Game, which was held Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, allowing only one hit and no runs. The game went to extra innings, with the National League emerging victorious by a score of 2-0 after 13 innings of play.
Saberhagen has signed the sweet spot of this Official 1987 All-Star Game Peter V. Ueberroth baseball in blue pen. On the panel to the south of the sweet spot, Saberhagen inscribed “Game Used” and “Starting Pitcher”. This baseball, which is lightly toned, shows good evidence of game use. It comes with a LOA from Bret Saberhagen.
