Presented here is a painting of a Native American chief done by the renowned frontier artist Seth Eastman circa 1840-1850. Eastman was a West Point graduate who became interested in Native American life when he served as the commander of Fort Snelling in Minnesota. This chieftain is shown in profile, wearing a full traditional headdress. The painting is a gouache and watercolor done on brown paper. Eastman has added his initials “SE” to the lower right hand portion of this sublime painting. This item comes in an oval frame that measures roughly 20 x 24 inches at its widest dimensions.
