The Kellogg Company's "Pep" cereal promotions of the mid- to late-1940's offered young collectors a veritable blizzard of tempting keepsakes. Most prominent among the large number of in-box premiums were extensive groups of black-and-white photo trading cards and colorful tin-litho pinbacks; 144 items from these two categories are neatly and safely housed in the fascinating display piece presented here. Its contents include:
1948 Pep Celebrities and Sports Stars Cards (40) - The full set of 44 cards featured 24 actors/actresses as well as 20 sports star depictions, and the majority of these are represented in this group. The undisputed "key" card of basketball legend George Mikan is included, along with all five of the issue's baseball players. The cards are secured in place by clear-plastic corner mounts that are designed not to adhere directly to the items. Overall condition of the cards is about EX/MT (a few lesser);
1940's Pep "Comic Characters" and "Squadron Insignias" Pinbacks (104) - Significant portions of both of these two pinback issues are present in this array of 104 metal collectibles. The group includes a few duplicates, and is highlighted by three Superman examples, as well as the elusive Phantom entry. The pins are generally EX/MT to NM.
