Abdul Salaam was a key member of the famed “New York Sack Exchange” defensive line of the New York Jets during the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, and the first member of the legendary crew to join the team. Alongside Mark Gastineau, Joe Klecko, and Marty Lyons, Salaam harangued opposing quarterbacks in the pre-sack era. Because of this, Salaam’s career numbers do not tell the whole story of his career, as the powerful defensive tackle frequently engulfed two blockers and opened holes for his fellow lineman. In 1981, when the New York Sack Exchange was at the height of its power, Salaam recorded seven sacks while helping Klecko and Gastineau record over 40 combined sacks.

This varsity letterman jacket dates to Salaam’s time at Kent State University, which he attended during the early 1970’s. A three-time All-MAC selection, Salaam was drafted in the seventh round of the 1976 NFL Draft by the Jets. When he attended Kent State, Salaam was known by his birth name, Larry Faulk. This jacket has “KSU” sewn on the front in yellow, and “Larry” embroidered on the left chest in yellow thread. A size “44” flag is attached to the back inside collar of this jacket. This item comes with a LOA from Abdul Salaam.
