“Mad Dog” roared into the big leagues at the end of the 1973 season with a .351 average and never looked back. Joining the Cubs as Mike Santo’s replacement, his .313 average in 1974 was the highest for a Cubs’ 3rd baseman since 1945. Madlock continued to maul NL pitching as he won the league batting title in 1975, 76, 81 and 83 - a fact he proudly points out on this historical bat. The Louisville Slugger R161 bat shows the kind of heavy use you would expect from a 4-time batting champ. The handle has been cracked and modified for better grip. Madlock’s number “18” is written in black marker on the knob. The barrel shows many ball and stitch impressions and cleat imprints. Several colors of bat rack paint streaks the barrel and handle. Madlock has signed the barrel in black marker and added “4x N.L. BATTING CHAMP 75, 76, 81, 83”. Two PSA/DNA numbered stickers are affixed (U28091 to the barrel end and 1B05364 to the barrel end). Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA who has graded the bat a GU 9.
