This lot includes three mint condition original magazines from Sports Illustrated’s first year in publication: 1954! The three magazines include the very first issue ever, dated August 16, 1954, with Milwaukee Braves star Eddie Mathews swinging through at the plate with New York Giants backstop Wes Westrum catching; the second issue, dated August 23; and the third issue ever printed, dated August 30. Issue #1 contains a pullout uncut sheet of 27 Topps baseball cards featuring Willie Mays, Ted Williams, Jackie Robinson, and others. Issue #2 contains a pullout uncut sheet of 27 Yankee Topps cards including Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra and Whitey Ford. Excellent condition.
