Offered here is a full free frank envelope, signed by Thomas Jefferson, addressed in Jefferson’s hand and franked “Free Th. Jefferson”. The envelope is addressed to a David Gelston, esq. in New York. Gelston was a politician involved in the Constitutional Conventions and was appointed by Jefferson as the Collector of the Port of New York, which he served from 1801 until his death in 1821. The envelope is in fine condition with several vertical and horizontal creases, including one through Jefferson's signature. Could easily be minimized with matting and/or framing! Full free frank envelopes are difficult to acquire and highly prized among collectors. This item comes with a LOA from Beckett Authentication.
