The Senior Professional Baseball League was established in 1989 for players over the age of 35 (with the exception for catchers, who could be 32). Based in Florida for the Winter Season, this league featured eight teams with two divisions and a 72-game schedule. The league included future Hall of Famers Rollie Fingers and Ferguson Jenkins, with other former stars such as Vida Blue and Mickey Rivers adding star power.

Among the former stars was former National League Rookie of the Year Jon Matlack, who was a pitcher for the St. Petersburg Pelicans. Matlack would earn 10 victories and helped lead St. Petersburg to the inaugural title. Matlack wore this white and maroon pinstriped button-down St. Petersburg Pelicans jersey during the 1989 season. Across the chest is “Pelicans” in maroon and yellow tackle twill with a “P” and a small “St” above, also in maroon and yellow. Matlack’s number “32” is sewn on the left center chest in maroon and yellow tackle twill. The back of the jersey has “MATLACK” sewn on in maroon and yellow tackle twill on a white name plate, which is above his number “32”. The left sleeve has the St. Petersburg Pelicans logo patch and each sleeve has a yellow and maroon striping in ribbed material on the ends. This jersey shows moderate to heavy game use with several stains and displays toning and comes with a LOA from noted game used jersey expert Dave Miedema.
