Known as a quiet, self-effacing man both during and after his playing days, Roger Maris went out of his way not to draw attention to his great career. That’s what makes this piece particularly unique as it was specially commissioned by the Home Run Champ himself to commemorate his record-breaking 1961 season. In true Maris fashion, less than 61 (the original production goal) of these stunning marble etched displays were made, most of which were gifts for friends and former teammates. The one offered here is numbered 46/61 and was given by Maris to former Yankees teammate Clete Boyer. The creamy white marble has a beautiful etching capturing Maris in his famous home run swing. The marble is matte polished and measures 12” x 16” x ¼” thick. The piece is attractively encapsulated in a museum quality display that measures 20 1/2” x 24 1/2”. Certificate of Authentication signed by Roger Maris to Clete Boyer.
