Baseball executive Lee MacPhail had a highly successful career in the front office, holding down general manager jobs with both the Baltimore Orioles and New York Yankees in addition to his job as director of player personnel for the Yankees and a stint as chief aide to Commissioner William Eckert. He also served as the American League president for 10 years, and the ALCS MVP award is named in his honor. MacPhail was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1998, and this official Major League Selig baseball – signed on the sweet spot in blue pen – includes a "HOF '98" inscription.
