JULY 19TH AUCTION
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 7/20/2013
In 1971 there were eight new Hall of Famers, highlighted by Satchel Paige, Rube Marquard and Harry Hooper. Interestingly, none of the new members were elected by the Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA), but by the Veteran’s Committee and Negro League Committee. This creamy white OAL Joe Cronin baseball has been signed in blue or black ink (grading “7-10” unless noted) by 22 members of the Hall of Fame including several of the new members. Hall of Fame weekend has always been a great place to obtain signatures as many HOFers arrive in Cooperstown to welcome the new inductees and to see old friends. Includes: Joe Medwick (sweet spot), Edd Roush (sweet spot), Ford Frick, Earle Combs, Jesse Haines, Pie Traynor, Harry Hooper, Chas. Gehringer, Rube Marquard, Frank Frisch, Red Ruffing, “Sam” Rice, Stanley Coveleski, Lloyd Waner, Casey Stengel (“6”), Zach Wheat, Waite Hoyt, Bob Feller, Wm. H. (Bill) Terry, Lefty Grove, Joe Cronin, Chick Hafey and Satchel Paige. Roy Campanella appears in clubhouse format. This is an exceptional item signed by almost two dozen HOFers, many who played during the Golden Era of baseball back in the 1920s and 30s. A full LOA from PSA/DNA accompanies this item.
