1987 marked the last time Larry Bird, the game’s greatest forward, would appear in the NBA Finals. Bird exemplified Boston pride as he had been the backbone of the Celtics’ 1981, 1984 and 1986 Championship teams. Though they made it through the playoffs in 1987, multiple injuries took their toll and they lost to the Lakers in 6 games. Bird’s 1987 green road jersey is made from heavy cotton, the last season the Celtics wore the older material before switching to mesh. The classic jersey shows light game use. Front has “CELTICS” and Bird’s “33” in white tackle twill. Sand-Knit label located on the lower right front tail with additional tagging that reads “87”, “2” and “MLB”. The back of the jersey has “BIRD” and his number “33” in white tackle twill. Stitching on the tackle twill graphics has loosened of time and some stray threads are evident. A great jersey from the height of a Hall of Famer’s career. Letter of Authenticity from MEARS who have graded the important jersey an A8.
