It had been almost 10 years since the last regularly issued basketball card set was issued, when Topps took a page out of their 1965 book and issued a set of “tall boys.” This hobby term for these long and lean cards is more apropos for this basketball issue than the football and hockey cards from a half decade earlier. This set has always been eagerly sought after by collectors, and with the lack of cards issued in recent year, this set is not short on rookie cards of Hall of Famers. No less than 18 HOFers are represented on a basketball card for the first time within these white bordered beauties. The names are a virtual Who’s Who of basketball greatness with Lew Alcindor, Walt Frazier, Dave DeBusschere, John Havlicek, Nate Thurmond, Elvin Hayes, Was Unseld and Willis Reed. And add great like Jerry West, Wilt Chamberlain, Oscar Robertson and Elgin Baylor makes this set one of the great basketball sets which can be collected.
