Since their inception into the American League in 1969, the Kansas City Royals have used the same insignia on their baseball caps. Their greatest player was George Brett, a hard-hitting, slick-fielding third baseman, who clubbed 3154 hits and is the only player to win batting titles in three separate decades (he won in 1976, 1980, 1990). Brett was elected to the Hall of Fame on his first ballot in 1999 with over 98% of the vote. This cap was worn by Brett during one of his 21 seasons as a Royal. The 7 3/8 cap has the white, embroidered KC with white button at the top. Within the headband is the “KM Pro Cap” manufacturer’s label, indicating this 100% wool cap is “water repellant.” The KM insignia and 7 3/8 size are also printed in the headband. Within the underside of the brim have the number “5” and the name “Brett” printed in dark marker. The cap shows extensive use with multiple areas of infield dirt clearly visible on the white areas. This cap was worn by one of the greatest pure hitters in baseball history, a guy who challenged the vaunted .400 mark in his MVP season of 1980.
