This Official National League William D. White baseball has been signed by three important members of the Negro Leagues. The sweet spot features two signatures, from Toni Stone and Fran Matthews. Stone was the first of three women in the Negro Leagues, a tough-as-nails second baseman who played in the late 1940’s and early 1950’s. Stone was a skilled batter and a gritty fielder who counted getting a hit off Satchel Paige as one of her career accomplishments. Matthews, nicknamed “Lefty”, played first base for the Newark Eagles in the late 1930’s and early 1940’s. Finally, Leandy Young has signed this baseball on the panel south of the sweet spot. Young, an outfielder, played for the Kansas City Monarchs, Birmingham Black Barons, and Oakland Larks between 1940 and 1946. Young added the inscription “1994” below his signature. A final, unidentified signature is located on the panel to the north of the sweet spot. This baseball comes with a LOA from JSA (X94483).
