JULY 19TH AUCTION
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 7/20/2013
Ted Williams was a veritable Renaissance Man of the Manly Arts - Hall of Fame Baseball Player, Ace Fighter Pilot and Expert Angler. The “Splendid Splinter” spent much of his downtime fishing for anything aquatic: salmon, marlin, bass - but it was bonefish that he truly loved to catch. As such, it’s not surprising that this Bonefish Special fishing rod was part of his estate when it was auctioned off by his daughter in 2012. The rod is custom made from a full size Louisville Slugger Ted Williams 125 model bat. “BONEFISH SPECIAL” has been stamped into the barrel and the body features red taped ‘rings” which also hold the line eyelets in place. A fly fishing reel has been fitted to the handle area. There are many stories of how Williams would practice his swing everywhere from the hotel room to the outfield between pitches - perhaps this was ordered by him so he could work on that splendid swing while enjoying his favorite hobby? PSA/DNA sticker number1B05316 is affixed to the knob end. Letter of Authenticity from the 2012 Ted Williams Collection Hunt Auction and PSA/DNA.
